Hello Mama and Papa! Congratulations on your little bundle of joy! Now here are the things that might help you as you prepare the before the baby arrives. :)

Let's talk about baby bag. It's the bag that you bring to the hospital, which contains all things baby.

If you have a smooth pregnancy, like everything is normal, not high a risk pregnancy, no complications, you may have your baby bag ready around 2 weeks before your delivery date. In case you have a high risk pregnancy, I think it is best to prepare ahead of time because in my experience, I just had my usual prenatal check-up but had to stay and give birth the following day.

Baby bag items:

  • Newborn clothes - consider being in the hospital for around 3 days. 5 sets of clothing, preferably white so you can easily spot dirt.

  • Mittens and socks - as per my research, mittens and socks are not exactly needed unless it is really cold in the hospital so you can just bring around 3 pairs. Letting the hands and feet exposed allow the baby to develop their tactile sensitivity naturally.

  • Beanies - hospitals usually provide these also so just being one or two as an extra.

  • Baby nail cutter - you may need to trim the baby's nails to prevent scratching his/her face, in case the nails are long.

  • Newborn diapers - you're gonna need a lot of this. It is recommended to change the diaper every 2- 3 hours - even if it is not full of pee yet. Change immediately if there's poop to avoid having rashes and irritation. We used Huggies newborn for our son.

  • Towels or lightweight blanket as protective layer before putting the baby on the bed.

  • Burp cloth - for anything wiping. There are muslin types or bamboo type fabrics. It will be okay as long as it is soft.

  • Cotton - for poop and pee cleaning. :) I still recommend cotton and water for wiping as the baby's delicate skin might get irritated by wet wipes. I prefer old school in here. :)

  • Toiletries - when giving the baby a bath. I remember the hospital providing this. But it is fine to bring a small one just in case. The hospital we gave birth to provided Lactacyd Baby.

  • Going home clothes - if you want to be extra in having the baby wear something more special. But personally, I would like to keep it simple here. The simple tie-side would be enough.

  • Car seat - to keep the baby safe especially if the travel is quite far.

I think basically that's it for a baby bag. Just send me a message if you have questions :)

All the best!
